Stephen O’Donnell, son of county MP Fiona O’Donnell, is set to run the Edinburgh Marathon to raise funds for North Berwick’s Leuchie House.
The East Lothian facility is the only respite home in Scotland to offer tailor made respite care and holiday packages to people with long-term physical disabilities, allowing guests and carers to relax and enjoy themselves.
Stephen works at the European Parliament and has been training at their Sports Centre in Brussels ahead of this Sunday’s race, which stretches from Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh to Gosford House in Longniddry.
Stephen said:
“I’m really proud to be running on behalf of Leuchie House. It’s an incredible charity providing much needed respite to people with serious conditions such as MS, Parkinson’s and Huntingdon’s.
I’m delighted to have surpassed my initial fundraising target of £500 and now just want to raise as much money as possible for Leuchie by making sure I cross the finish line at Musselburgh Racecourse on Sunday!”
Mairi O’Keefe, Chief Executive of Leuchie House, said:
“We’re completely overwhelmed by Stephen’s commitment to Leuchie. It’s great that he’s found time to train while working in Brussels – his efforts have taken our work to an international level! His decision to run on our behalf has certainly generated new interest in our services and fundraising activities, and we wish him the best of luck this weekend.”
