MP PRAISES THE CARE IN CARE & REPAIR

East Lothian MP, Fiona O’Donnell, visited the Care & Repair project in Haddington on Tuesday 24 August and met with staff and service users.

Fiona said, “I was delighted to be invited to see for myself the work of Care & Repair in East Lothian.  I was impressed by the range of services that they offer and the care that the small but dedicated team take in delivering this vital service.

“The push just now is to keep people in their own homes for as long as possible.  That can mean having adaptations in your home and this is one of the areas where Care & Repair can help.  They can take on the role of project managers making sure all the different people involved from OTs to trades people communicate, and also with grant applications.

“But they don’t stop there.  They also provide a small repairs service whereby the labour is free of charge, and clients just pay for the materials.  For older and vulnerable people it is reassuring that you have someone coming into your home that you can trust.

After the visit to the premises in Market Street, Haddington, Fiona went to meet Betty and Rudi Franzel who have recently had a walk-in shower installed with the help of Care & Repair.

After meeting the Franzels and seeing their new shower, Fiona commented, “Betty and Rudi spoke so highly of the support they received from Marilyn from Care & Repair.  Even with the help of their daughter, they were having real problems getting the adaptations they need.  That all changed when Marilyn got involved.  I wanted to see for myself the kind of projects that the Care & Repair team help with.  It was clear that for Betty and Rudi it has made a real difference to their lives.

Fiona added, “Care & Repair have been really innovative in establishing a Charitable Trust which can make discretionary grants.  I want to thank everyone involved for all their hard work.  The team at Care & Repair really care about the people they help and are making a valuable contribution to the lives of older and disabled people in East Lothian.”
